Description
W and Z bosons are produced in the initial stage partonic hard scatterings in high energy hadronic and heavy-ion collisions. The measurement of W and Z bosons production in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC energies provide constraints on the nuclear modified parton distribution function (PDF) in a phase-space region that is hardly accessed by previous experiments.
Production of W and Z bosons are measured via muonic decays at forward rapidity (2.5 < y_lab < 4), in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions with ALICE detectors. The results provide a clear picture of the initial state to interpret the later stages characterising the complex the evolution of p-Pb and Pb-Pb collision systems.
In this report, recent measurements on the production of Z and W bosons in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at central-of-mass energy of 8.16 and 5.02 TeV will be, respectively, presented. The invariant production yield and the nuclear modification factor as a function of rapidity and collision centrality are demonstrated and compared to that from other LHC experiments along with predictions with and without considering the nuclear modifications on the PDF.
