Description
Bottomonia are unique probes of the quark gluon plasma (QGP) formed in heavy ion collisions because their sizes are smaller than the coherence length of the medium. But the analysis of their propagation in the QGP is subtle as various processes like screening and dissociation play a role. A framework that includes these processes, while maintaining the coherence of the Bottomonium wavefunction as it evolves, is the formalism of open quantum systems. I will describe the formalism and present some results for Quarkonium yields in a simplified model of the QGP. (Ongoing work with Anurag Tiwari.)
