Abstract: A detailed dynamical description of the hadronic stage is important for low energy nuclear collisions as well as the late stages of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion reactions. In this talk, I will introduce the SMASH (Simulating Many Accelerated Strongly-interacting Hadrons) transport approach and explain the most important ingredients. Results for particle production and emission of dileptons in heavy-ion reaction at SIS-18 energies will be presented. In addition, I will mention how SMASH can be applied as an afterburner to hydrodynamic evolution and show results for transport coefficients of the hadron gas. In particular, the shear viscosity is very sensitive to resonance lifetimes, while the bulk viscosity shows a strong dependence on the slowest mode in the evolution. There are also results for the newly defined cross-conductivities that indicate how the different currents associated with baryon number, electric charge and strangeness are coupled to each other.
