Description

Collision dynamics at BES energies and signatures of first-order phase transitions

Speaker: Jan Steinheimer (Frankfurt Univ.)

Time: Apr. 6 (Tuesday) 6:00am (San Fransisco), 9:00am (New York), 3:00pm (Frankfurt), 6:30pm(New Delhi), 9:00pm (Beijing), 10:00pm (Tokyo)

Abstract: In this talk I will give an overview of the current status on the high density phase
structure of QCD and how to possibly constrain it experimentally. First, I will discuss the importance of effective models for high rho_B thermodynamics and how to include already existing constraints from lattice QCD to nuclear matter and even cold neutron star properties. This allows us to make quantitative comparisons of binary neutron star mergers with existing heavy ion programs, showing how the experimental programs to study these macroscopic and microscopic systems can complement each other. In the second part of the talk I will give an overview of how 'old' and 'new' observables in heavy ion collisions, proposed to constrain the high rho_B phase structure, are treated in dynamical models. Such observables include flow, electromagnetic probes as well as fluctuations and correlations.
