Scattering Amplitudes in AdS

Scattering amplitudes are important physical quantities which encode the microscopic details of interactions. In this talk, we focus on scattering amplitudes in anti de Sitter (AdS) space. These objects are basic observables for testing and exploiting the AdS/CFT correspondence, allowing us to analytically study the physics at strong coupling. They also help to sharpen our understanding of Quantum Field Theory and gravity, in particular by comparing with flat-space amplitudes where recent progress has generated a lot of new lessons. I will review the basics of scattering amplitudes in AdS, and the enormous difficulties associated with the standard diagrammatic expansion method. I will then explain how the use of 'bootstrap' ideas greatly simplifies the problem, and allows us to reveal the remarkable underlying simplicity in these objects. I'll present explicit results in several important theories, involving gluons and gravitons in AdS, and show that they enjoy similar relations reminiscent of the flat-space case. I will also point out other interesting properties which are intrinsic to curved backgrounds.
