Description
The CDF collaboration recently reported a new measurement of the W-boson mass which was significantly different from the Standard Model (SM) prediction and previous measurements.  In this talk, I will give a brief overview on the implications of the W-mass measurement to the SM, how the measurement was done, and discuss what kind of new physics could generate a modification to the W mass.  This talk is partially based on arXiv:2204.05296.   Biography: Jiayin Gu obtained his PhD at the University of California, Davis in 2014.  He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at IHEP, DESY and Mainz before joining Fudan University in 2021 as a faculty member.  In recent years, his work mainly focuses on the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) and its applications on precision Higgs and electroweak measurements at future colliders.  He is also an active contributor to various future collider projects, with a major contribution to the EFT analysis in the CEPC conceptual design report.
