Description

Recently, ChatGPT has shown capabilities comparable to averaged undergraduate students in physics. Should physicists worry that ChatGPT (AI in general) will take over their jobs one day? In this talk, I will use examples to illustrate my opinion: Most of work in research will be replaced by AI, but its role is more like being an assistant to us, not replacing us. My survival strategies are: (1) work on topics that AI has not yet have enough data to learn; (2) leverage my physics background to improve AI; (3) work on AI interpretability: if AI becomes better than me in physics, understanding how it works can help me understand physics, too.

Bio:Ziming Liu is a third-year Physics PhD student at MIT and IAIFI, advised by Prof. Max Tegmark. Before that, he received his Bachelor's degree in physics from Peking University, advised by Prof. Huichao Song. He researches on the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and physics in general, including automating/speeding up scientific discoveries with AI, physics-inspired generative models, physics of deep learning, AI interpretability etc.
