Searching for gravitational wave burst in PTA data with piecewise linear functions

Description

The analysis of the pulsar timing array data not only reveals a nanohertz gravitational wave background, but may also help us discover individual signals on the sky map such as gravitational wave bursts generated by the encounters of supermassive black holes, cosmic string cusps/kinks, etc.. In this talk, I will share our recent work where we propose an efficient Bayesian approach to search for the strongest burst signal with a time scale of O(1-10) years.

Bibliography: Heling Deng received his PhD degree from Tufts University in 2019, and is now a postdoc at Oregon State University and a NANOGrav member. His current research interest is developing new methods of analyzing the pulsar timing array data with different models.
