Abstract: After quickly reviewing the current status in our understanding of quarkonium-production mechanisms after more than 10 years of LHC data, I will focus on the relevance of studying new associated-production channels, including quarkonium-pair production. I will highlight that both eta(c) and psi+psi LHC data up to large pT are very well reproduced by the most rudimentary implementation of QCD to describe quarkonium formation, namely the Colour-Singlet Model which the leading-order term in NRQCD. In this context, I will discuss the relevance of the most recent LHCb psi+psi data in order to advance our knowledge of double parton scatterings and the multidimensional gluonic content of the proton.
