Abstract:
The field of neutrino astronomy has emerged as groundbreaking, providing a distinctive viewpoint into the universe's most energetic and elusive phenomena. This seminar is devoted to presenting the latest advancements in the field achieved through the application of Cherenkov telescopes. The talk begins by providing an overview of neutrinos, emphasizing their fundamental role in astrophysics and their potential to unlock mysteries such as the origin of cosmic rays. The focal point of the seminar centers on recent outcomes obtained with the ANTARES and IceCube detectors. Noteworthy accomplishments include the IceCube identification of neutrino signals from the blazar TXS 0506+056 and the starburst galaxy NGC 1068, and, more recently, from the Galactic Plane. The discussion extends to future prospects in neutrino astronomy with upcoming telescopes such as KM3neT and IceCube-Gen2.
About the speaker:
Dr. Giulia Illuminati is part of both the ANTARES and KM3NeT Collaborations, and my research is centered on delving into the universe using high-energy neutrinos, aiming to pinpoint their cosmic origins. I am currently a permanent researcher at INFN-Bologna, previously assistant professor at Bologna University, post-doc at Astroparticle and Cosmology (APC) laboratory in Paris and PhD student at Instituto de Física Corpuscular (IFIC) in Valencia. In the KM3NeT Collaboration, I cover the role of co-convener of the astronomy working group since 2021.
