Description

Abstract:

Muon Transmission Imaging (MTI) has emerged as a new technique in the realm of non-invasive imaging, utilizing cosmic ray muons for penetrating dense materials and revealing their internal structures. This report provides a comprehensive overview of MTI, exploring its fundamental principles, applications across various fields such as archaeology, volcanology, and tunnel inspection, as well as addressing the challenges and future directions of this innovative technology. Through a blend of theoretical insights and practical case studies, this report aims to contribute to the understanding and advancement of muon imaging technology, thereby opening new avenues for research and practical applications.

About the speaker:

Ran Han graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the School of Physics at Shandong University in 2002, and earned her Ph.D. from Beijing University in 2008. From 2009 to 2012, she held a postdoctoral position at the National Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics (IN2P3) in France. She also spent 9 years at the CAST working on radiation detection technology related to aerospace. In 2008, she joined the North China Electric Power University, where she is currently a professor at the School of Nuclear Science and Engineering. She has been involved in particle experiment research and new detector development for a long time, participating in experiments such as PHENIX, CALICE, and CEPC. Currently, she is a member of the JUNO collaborations, with a focus on geoneutrino study.
