Abstract:
For over 25 years, the DAMA/LIBRA experiment has claimed evidence of dark matter through an annual modulation signal, though no other experiments have confirmed this result. To address this, the COSINE-100 collaboration conducted a model-independent test using 106 kg of sodium iodide, the same target material as DAMA/LIBRA, over 6.4 years. With improved energy calibration and background modeling, our analysis found no evidence of an annual modulation, challenging DAMA/LIBRA’s claim at a confidence level greater than 3σ. Additionally, we explored new physics scenarios and set constraints on WIMP-nucleus interactions. The seminar will also cover the status of detector upgrade to COSINE-100U and plans for COSINE-200.
About the speaker:
Mr. Seung-Mok LEE (이승목, 李昇穆) is a PhD candidate in Seoul National University in South Korea. He completed his Bachelor's degree at the same university and is planning to obtain the doctoral degree in February 2025 under the supervision of Professor Sun Kee Kim. He has participated in the COSINE-100 dark matter search experiment in the Yangyang underground laboratory in Korea. He recently performed the annual modulation signal search analysis to test the DAMA/LIBRA's long-standing claim.
