This symposium is organized in memory of Prof. Tsung Dao Lee, who passed away on 4 August 2024, and in honor of his scientific achievements. Prof. Lee was a great physicist and made many pioneering and fundamentally important contributions to modern physics, especially in quantum field theories, particle physics, nuclear physics, condensed matter physics, statistical physics, fluid dynamics and astrophysics. He shared the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1957 with Prof. Chen Ning Yang for their groundbreaking work on parity violation in weak interactions.
On 1 March 1949, Prof. Lee published his first research paper in Physical Review in collaboration with Prof. Yang and Prof. M.N. Rosenbluth. Exactly 76 years later, we come together to memorialize Prof. Lee and his brilliant scientific career at the China Center of Advanced Science and Technology (CCAST) founded by himself and the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1986.
The symposium, which will be held on 1 March 2025, features 10 invited talks to go over Prof. Lee's main scientific contributions to modern physics. It is co-organized by Institute of High Energy Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Peking University, Institute of Theoretical Physics of CAS, and Institute of Physics of CAS.
