Description

In the Higgs potential of the standard model, it is known that the electroweak phase transition in the early universe is a crossover. However, the phase transition can occur as first-order when new physics effects contribute to the potential. If the first-order phase transition took place in the early universe, the graitational waves are produced by bubble collision. Since the energy of gravitational waves depend on the shape of the potential, it may be possible to explore the new physics effects in the potential through their observations. However, the spectrum of gravitational wave from first-order phase transition has some theoretical uncertainties.
In this talk, we focus on some models beyond the standard model as an example, and discuss testaibility of them through the obseration of graitational wave. We take into account theoretical uncertainties, particularly those arising from renormalization group running effects, in the GW spectrum and discuss how precisely new physics effects can be probed.
