Abstract:

Heavy flavour is abundantly produced at the LHC, providing high-precision tests of the standard model and searches for new heavy particles through their virtual contributions. In addition, it facilitates novel probes of QCD matter under extreme conditions, and serves as a source of Neutrinos and other feebly interacting particles. I will present an overview of such recent efforts, carried out with both general-purpose, well-established (CMS) and dedicated, most-recent (SND@LHC) detectors at the LHC, and beyond (SHiP).

About the speaker:

Nuno Leonardo is a Principal Researcher at LIP (Laboratory for Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics) and Professor of Particle Physics at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon. He earned his PhD from MIT in 2007 with a dissertation on the Discovery of BsBs oscillations at Fermilab, followed by extensive research at CERN, Purdue University, and MIT. Nuno has made significant contributions to CMS and other major experiments, focusing on heavy flavor physics, CP violation, and searches for new physics. He leads Portuguese participation in SND@LHC and SHiP experiments. As a convener of the LHC Heavy Flavor Working Group and former CMS B Physics coordinator, he drives cutting-edge analyses and collaborations.
