Description

Clarifying origins and acceleration mechanisms of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) has been the centennial endeavor, being one of the most intriguing mysteries in an interdisciplinary research among astroparticle physics, high-energy physics and nuclear physics. With an ability to select events by the rigidity (E/Z), arrival directions of UHECRs can be exploited to probe the most extremely energetic phenomena in the universe. In this talk, I will review an introduction of cosmic-ray physics, detection techniques of extensive air showers, and the latest results from the two giant observatories in operation; Telescope Array experiment and Pierre Auger Observatory including ultra-relativistic magnetic monopole search, detection of the "Amaterasu particle", and their on-going upgrades. I will also address scientific objectives and requirements for next-generation experiment, such as the Global Cosmic Ray Observatory.
