Description

The measurement of the Z-boson mass with the ATLAS detector provides a stringent test of the Standard Model, such as QCD and electroweak physics, at a new energy frontier.

Achieving a high-precision determination of the Z-boson mass requires an accurate calibration of the muon momentum. In this analysis, we adopt a strategy that does not rely on an external Z-boson mass value as a calibration target, instead, the calibration is performed using lighter resonances.

A new muon momentum calibration procedure has been developed, combining J/ψ events to calibrate the momentum scale and a mixture of J/ψ and Z events to calibrate the momentum resolution, all while maintaining independence from the Z-boson mass.
