Description
In relativistic heavy-ion collisions, the relative motion of heavy quarkonium with respect to the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) induces spin alignment. Our previous work attributed this to a repopulation of the spin components. Here we reveal a complementary mechanism: the relative motion corrects the effective potential and deforms the wave function through a D-wave admixture. Crucially, this D-wave admixture originates from the continuum and evolves into a D-wave bound state as the QGP cools, thereby contributing to the final D-wave content. Expanding the relative velocity to order $O(v^2)$, we calculate the resulting spin alignment.
