Description

摘要:General Relativity is naturally treated as a quantum field theory using the techniques of effective field theory. In this colloquium, I will review the simple ideas behind this treatment and provide examples. This will lead to a discussion of the lessons learned and the limits of the theory. Overall I will make the case that quantum General Relativity appears in our present core theory in much the same way as the other gauge interactions of the Standard Model.

个人简介:John F. Donoghue is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His research spans particle physics, gravitational physics, and effective field theory, with major contributions to general relativity as an effective quantum field theory, chiral perturbation theory, CP violation, and Standard Model phenomenology. He has authored over 200 publications and the classic textbook "The Dynamics of the Standard Model". A Fellow of the American Physical Society, he was recently awarded the 2026 J. J. Sakurai Prize for Theoretical Particle Physics.
