Description
The Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHEP, CAS) is China’s core research institution for high-energy physics, home to major scientific and technological infrastructures such as the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider (BEPC).
The BEPC Waste Heat Recovery and Heating Project ingeniously harnesses waste heat dissipated by the BEPC accelerator. Adopting compression heat pump technology, it upgrades low-grade waste heat to high-grade thermal energy for campus heating. After one year of trial operation, the heating performance is satisfactory.
Estimated results show that the project can cut carbon emissions by nearly 900 tons per year, bringing both environmental and economic benefits. Funded by the Special Grant for Low-Carbon Technologies of Beijing Municipality, it serves as a demonstration model for the green transition of Large-Scale Scientific Facilities.
