Description
The Large Particle Physics Laboratory Directors Group (LDG), which coordinates the development of HEP accelerators in Europe, established a Sustainability Panel in 2024 with the mandate to develop guidelines and a minimum set of key indicators for the sustainability assessment of future accelerators. While focused on accelerator projects, the proposed framework is also relevant to existing and future research infrastructures. The Panel’s findings and recommendations have been submitted as input to the process for the 2026 Update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics.
With its renewed mandate, and building on previous work, the Panel is committed to analysing best practices in the construction and operation of sustainable accelerator-based research infrastructures, including their potential for improvement and associated cost–benefit aspects.
This contribution summarizes Panel’s activities together with potential future developments and invites feedback from the wider community.
