Description
AC-coupled Low-Gain Avalanche Detectors (AC-LGADs) are leading candidates for 4D tracking systems at future high-energy physics colliders, such as the CEPC and FCC. These sensors target a simultaneous spatial resolution of ~10um and a timing resolution of <50 ps. This contribution reports on recent R&D progress spanning AC-LGAD sensor optimization, dedicated readout ASIC development, and systematic laboratory characterization.
We present comprehensive studies on strip-type AC-LGAD sensors using a Transient Current Technique (TCT) laser scanning system and a $^{90}\text{Sr}$ $\beta$-source test setup. These measurements evaluate the impact of key structural parameters—including strip pitch, electrode geometry, and $n^+$ layer doping—on signal formation, position resolution, and timing precision.
In parallel, we report on the development of the dedicated Low-power AC-LGAD Timing Readout Integrated Circuit (LATRIC) ASIC series. Following the successful functional validation of the single-channel prototype (LATRIC0), characterization results for the newly fabricated 8-channel iteration (LATRIC1) are presented. Finally, preliminary results from integrated sensor–ASIC combined testing are demonstrated, highlighting initial system-level performance.
