DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Matt Stukel (SNO LAB)\nAbstract:\n\n  Located 2 k
m under the Canadian Shield\, SNOLAB is a low-background research facility
exploring some of the most fundamental questions in modern particle and n
uclear physics. The depth of the location results in a significant reducti
on in cosmic-ray muons to the level of one muon per square meter per day.
The laboratory is also maintained as a class-2000 clean room which enables
a large expanse of research activities. With a primary focus on neutrino
physics and the hunt for dark matter\, SNOLAB hosts a diverse array of exp
 eriments (SNO+\, DEAP 3600\, PICO 500\, NEWS-G\, DAMIC\, SENSEI etc…) wo
rking toward these goals. In addition\, the laboratory operates many world
class facilities including a low background screening laboratory and cryo
genic underground research facility. This talk will provide an overview of
the research done at SNOLAB\, focusing on some of the newer experiments a
nd results from the laboratory. \n\nAbout the speaker:\n\n Born and raise
d in Ottawa\, Canada Matthew Stukel completed his undergraduate degree at
Carleton University in applied physics. He then worked at TRIUMF as a radi
ation-effects modelling research assistant. After about a year\, he decide
d to pursue a degree in higher learning and completed his graduate studies
(MS.c and Ph.D.) at Queen’s University. During his doctorate\, Matt wor
ked on the KDK (Potassium Decay) project which performed the first measure
ment of a rare electron capture decay of 40K. He then served as a post-doc
at the Gran Sasso Science Institute\, where he participated in the COSINU
 S. The goal of the experiment is to confirm or refute the longstanding DAM
A/LIBRA dark matter claim. Currently\, Matt is a research scientist at SNO
LAB and adjunct professor at the University of Toronto where he primarily
works on the SuperCDMS experiment in their hunt for dark matter. Matt enjo
ys skiing and is a big fan of Formula 1. \n\n--------\n\nzoom info:\n\nhtt
