Description

A search for the Higgs boson decay to two muons is performed using LHC proton–proton collision data. The analysis targets the $H \to \mu^+ \mu^-$ channel, which is sensitive to the Yukawa coupling of the Higgs boson to muons. Events are split into exclusive categories based on jet multiplicity and kinematic properties to maximize signal sensitivity. A multivariate classifier is used to separate signal from the dominant Drell–Yan background. Signal is extracted with a simultaneous fit across all categories to observables chosen for each category.
