Description
The MEG experiment at PSI is searching for the lepton-flavour violating decay mu-> e gamma with unprecedented sensitivity. MEG set the most stingent experimental bound to date, based on the analysis of 2009, 2010 and 2011 data, to be <5.7 x 10**-13.
After a successful run in 2012 and a final run in 2013 also a MEG Upgrade is envisaged, with a new positron spectrometer and an improved gamma ray detector. This upgrade plan has just been approved by the founding agencies and the host laboratory, and it is planned to take place before 2015, with subsequent three years of data taking towards a final sensitivity of ~6 x 10**-14.
