Description
A search has been conducted for the bb ̄ decay of the Standard Model Higgs boson produced through vector boson fusion in association with a photon and two jets. The search in this bb ̄γjj signature benefits from a large reduction of the QCD jet background relative to the inclusive bb ̄ j j signature and from the presence of a high-tranverse-momentum photon for triggering.
Results are reported from the analysis of 12.6 fb−1 of LHC proton-proton collision data at sqrt(s) = 13 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector. The observed 95% confidence level upper limit on the production cross section times branching ratio for a Higgs mass of 125 GeV is 4.0 times the Standard Model expectation. The analysis methods are also used to search for Z + γ vector boson fusion production in the same b¯bjjγ signature. The observed upper limit on the Z + γ cross section times branching ratio is 2.0 times the Standard Model expectation. The observed Z + γ signal strength is 0.3 +- 0.8 times the Standard Model value.
