Description
The tracker of the CMS experiment at the LHC will be completely replaced to cope with the very high luminosity conditions of the HL-LHC. The upgraded tracker will provide tracking data at the first, hardware-based, trigger level (L1 trigger) to maintain the physics potential of CMS. The detectors are designed to sustain high radiation doses. The baseline technical solutions envisaged by the CMS collaboration will be presented, and their performance will be discussed, based on the results of prototype tests and of simulations.
