CEPC Physics and detector regular meeting

Wednesday, July 25, 2018 from 15:00 to 18:40 (Asia/Shanghai)
at IHEP ( A419 )

Attending: Haijun Yang, Jianbei Liu, Roberto, Shufang, Zhaoru, Huirong Qi, Xin Shi, Hongbo Zhu, Gang Li, Manqi, Joao, Boxiang Yu, Mengran, Kewei, Meng Wang, Paolo, Ouyang

1. Go through the status of each chapter

Ch2: Flavor physics needs to be updated.

Ch3:  Detector concept

1) We should add the introduction before Ch 3.1

2) Add the machine radiation bkg general statement from hongbo

3) Ch 3.3 detector concept: Joao add text

4) Yuannning should help to organize ch3

Ch4.1Vertex: no people

Ch4.2 Silicon:

1) The required modification has been done.

2) The detector geometry plot will be updated by Hongbo.

3) We need more discussion about the time resolution statement. Whether it should be provided by silicon, but Meng said that the 25ns is out of their consideration

Ch4.3 TPC:

1) All the comments from Charlie are implemented.

2) Iron back flow details will be finished today

Ch4.4 Full silicon:

1) New version is uploaded.

2) We should discuss whether keep the Figure 4.33. The plot shows the higgs mass distribution for baseline and full silicon concept, however, the distribution from baseline has a shift for the mean value. Manqi analyzed that the difference is because we didn’t consider the material budget in simulation, but it will take some time to make the new plots. He suggested to remove the plots, just shoe the mass resolution in text. Joao said this is an open question, need more discussion.

3) The question about why fast simulation resolution is bad than full simulation havn’t gotten the reply from Weimin.

Ch4.5 Drift Chamber:

Franco is waiting for the comments

Ch6 Magnet:

1) The volume of this chapter is much reduced.

2) Zhao Wei said she is not sure about the details about the HTS, so she just say suppose that HTS will be thinner.

3) Joao asked her whether she can check the details from other experiments in next few week? Zhao Wei said she will try.

Ch7 Muon:

1) Paolo has update the related part based on the comments and discussion.

2) Joao suggested to remove the white margin in Figure 7.3. Paolo said he will try firstly.

Ch9 MDI:

Hongbo showed the details about the new version based on Charlie’s comments.

1) Hongbo thought the layout for Figure 9.1 is not good, whether should we optimize the layout now? Joao said that the time is not ehough, the change of this plot will affect all the statement related the change, so we can just say the current layout is like this, and we plan to optimize FTD for future.

Ch5 Calorimeter:

1. Dual-readout:

Most of the Charlie’s comments are implemented, he just can not compile bacause of some text and symbol. He will fix it soon

Charlie think the dual-readout chapter is good, in order to unify the format of calorimeter chapter, ECAL and HCAL should refer to the style of dual-readout.

2. ECAL

1) From Charlie’s comments, some sentences need to be rewritten.

2) The statement of “The scintillator strips in adjacent layers are perpendicular to each other to achieve a 5×5mm2 effective transverse readout cell size” is not true. Joao said that if we want to put optimization study for the cell size, it is fine, 5*5 or 10*10. However, the problem is two strip perpendicular layout related to a specific cell size, we don't have enough information for that, no simulation. So Joao suggested to remove the statement. It is better to not say anything, because it is not the baseline.

3) Joao suggested to reduce the beam test contents

4) For the future R&D Chapter: Xin Shi is collecting the information from sub-detector. Please every group think about the future R&D in high level, considering collaboration, not only focus on your own technology.

3. HCAL

1) Joao said we should specify the baseline at beginning, which PRC-DHCAL is baseline. Three of the conveners should talk with each other, making clear the concept is10*10 silicon ECAL+10*10 DHCAL.

2) For HCAL electronic, the total number of channels with 4 × 107 is not optimized. Currently, we don’t have proper answer for this number.

3) Joao suggested to shorten the other options in two days

5) For figure 5.24, we should get the permission from CALICE HCAL.

The Calorimeter conveners should have a meeting to discuss the details for this chapter asap.
