Description

Abstract: In contrast to top pair production that is via strong interaction, single-top-quark production by electroweak force can directly access to CKM matrix element V_tb. Singly production was first observed in 2009 at the Tevatron via t-channel and s-channel combined. Except these two, there is a so-called tW channel where a single-top-quark is produced with a W boson. This channel is probable at the LHC due to its higher centre-of-mass energy and higher luminosity. This talk will present the measurements of both inclusive and differential cross-sections of tW channel at the ATLAS with 13TeV data taken in 2015-2016. Boosted decision tree (BDT) technique is used in the inclusive cross-section measurement to separate signal from background. Then after applying a requirement on the BDT response, an enriched signal region is selected. Unfolding technique is used to compute the differential cross-sections. In the end, an adversarial neural network technique is researched to further study the potential of reducing systematic uncertainties.

About Speaker: Rui is a Ph.D student in Bonn University in Germany, working with ATLAS experiment. Before that, he finished his master in the UCAS, worked on the BESIII experiment. During the Ph.D, he worked on single-top-quark tW channel cross-section measurement with run2 data and particle-flow algorithm, an alternative algorithm to reconstruct jets, maintaining the algorithm and refactoring the package. In the beginning of his Ph.D, he was also involved in an exotic search which is a vector-like b-quark decaying to t and W.
