Abstract:
The production of same-sign lepton pairs from proton-proton collisions occurs rarely in
the Standard Model (SM). However, physics Beyond Standard Model (BSM) can significantly enhance the cross section of these production processes. The final state is favoured in many BSM searches because of its relatively low background. In this seminar, I will focus on new physics searches with same-sign leptons, jets and missing transverse momentum at the Large Hadron Collider. In addition, I will talk about lepton universality tests at ATLAS and CMS prompted by the recent evidence of lepton flavour violation from LHCb.

Dr. Xingguo Li is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the McGill University (based at CERN). He was a Research Fellow at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg from 2018 to 2021, Germany. From 2019 to 2021 he led the in situ jet calibration group consisting of 50 international physicists to provide jet calibration to all ATLAS publications. He also served as a member of the Early Career Scientists Board from 2018 to 2020, representing 1000 Young Scientists at ATLAS. He obtained his Ph.D degree from University of Manchester in 2016 under the supervision of Professor Terry Wyatt FRS and his Master Physics degree from Manchester University in 2012. From 2016 to 2018, he was a Chung-Yao Chao Fellow with Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His main interests lie in precision measurements as well as new physics searches at the Large Hadron Collider.
