摘要:
The LHCb experiment will have to be upgraded to operate under higher luminosities during the ”High Luminosity” phase of the LHC, i.e. after Long Shutdown 4 (LS4). An extensive upgrade of the Electromagnetic Calorimeter must be prepared in order to sustain the foreseen instantaneous luminosity of up to 1.5 × 10^{34} cm^{2}s^{1} and the goal of collecting 300 fb^{1} after LHC Run 4. This upgrade will consist in replacing or modifying the ECAL detector modules, and equipping them with new photodetectors and front-end electronics. The main challenge is to design calorimeter modules that keep the performance at the level of the present ECAL, even with a significantly larger particle density than now,  sustain the high radiation doses, in particular in the area close to the beam, and are able to perform time measurements with precision of O(10 ps) in order to cope with the large pile-up. In this talk, the upgrade plan and hardware solutions for the new ECAL modules will be discussed.
