Description
Longitudinal and lateral electromagnetic shower shapes for a highly granular crystal electromagnetic calorimeter were studied by fitting published shower profile models using experimental data from a 2025 testbeam experiment performed at the Proton Synchrotron (PS) at CERN, on an event-by-event basis. Values for the radiation length, critical energy, and Molière radius were extracted from the moments of the distributions of the shower shape parameters and measured to be consistent with published values for BGO. The distributions of the relative energy fluctuations within an event were found to be conditionally dependent upon the shower profile parameters and known distributions with good agreement. Generative methods were developed to simulate shower shape parameters and to simulate full showers conditioned on shower shape parameters extracted from data. The resulting simulated values were found to be close to or indistinguishable from real events.
