Description

CORSIKA (COsmic Ray SImulations for KAscade) is a widely used Monte Carlo program for simulating extensive air showers induced by cosmic rays. In this work, it is used to simulate the atmospheric muon flux using the Papini primary proton spectrum. Muons are weighted according to their parent primary energy, and the flux is normalized using an equivalent exposure time derived from the total simulation weight. For near-vertical muons (0°–5°), the simulated differential energy spectrum agrees well with experimental measurements over 0.1–10⁵ GeV, validating the simulation framework. Ongoing studies of large zenith angles (70°–80°) reveal a systematic discrepancy with data, with possible origins including Earth's curvature effects and the simulation geometry.
