CEPC Physics and detector regular meeting

Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from 15:00 to 18:40 (Asia/Shanghai)
at IHEP ( A420 )

Joao firstly asked about the situation of GitLab registration. Gang said that there are 4 new account and he suggested everyone to get a gitlab account and upload the CDR documents.

Then Joao simply introduced the progress of the convenor organization for November meeting. There are 5 parallel sessions in one day, which are silicon tracker, gas detector, calorimeter, concept(new concept, magnet), physics and simulation. The convenor will invite foreign people and determine the talk list. Each group should give a talk about CDR.  For the simulation session, Manqi mentions that he has already received 8~9 talk requests, but the room for details talks is not enough. So more discussion will be held on Friday night meeting.

The status of physics and simulation  by Manqi Ruan

Manqi said that they are focusing on the detector geomotry and performance and try to finish on the end of this month. They will have a discussion with Weiming on silicon tracking issues.  Since the time is quite tight, it is hard to converge the silicon work in two week. Also they will contact with other convenors for November meeting.

Joao asked about the concept of silicon tracker, and Manqi said that for the concept, that have the  silicon tracking geometry, simulation based on GEANT4 and the begining step for reconstruction simulation. There is still several open questions need to be answered.

Status report on Muon detector   by Liang Li

Due to limit of funding and manpower, recent progress of muon detector is mostly on the software side. CDR will mainly list current technology options, discuss their strengths/shortcomings, performance studies will be included if ready but mostly it will be discussed at physics performance chapter instead. However, from simulation side, they don't have enough manpower for muon detector full simulation, especially on reconstruction parts. Considering the time limit and lack of manpower, the description for the muon detector performance can be temporary filled by firstly bringing out the argument and the important issues we concerned, and giving some reference from current experiment results, then proving the performance based on MC truth study.

For the manpower of CDR writing, currently 3 people from SJTU and 2 people from INFN can be involved, fro IHEP, we can contact with Yuguang, who is the editor for muon detector in pre-CDR.

Status report on Calorimeter    by Haijun Yang

Haijun firstly shows the progress of CDR writing, he mentions the deadline for collecting input documents from subgroups is September 30 and the deadline for merging and writing up a draft of CDR is October 31.

He also reports the progress on  Scintillator + SiPM + SPIROC Test, SiPM Response Curve Study, and SDHCAL Particle ID study. For the particle ID study, the BDT can provide better e/mu separation ability from pi. These results have passed the approval from collaboration, so they can be written into CDR.

Haijun also mentions that some people have interest in CEPC but they already have long term responsibility on ILC. Joao wants the name list of these people and try to figure out a good solution.

Status report on Silicon tracker   by  Meng Wang

Meng shows the possible outline for silicon tracker in CDR.
Considering many aspects are included in the outline, Joao has two concerns about it, one is whether the time is enough for doing these aspects in short time, the other one is some aspects are not necessary for the first CDR draft. For example, the front end electronic is just on the beginning stage, we should consider the time scale seriously.

Status report on TPC   by Huirong Qi

This week, Huirong discussed with Dengzhi about some aspects in CDR, mainly for the trigger, which is important for electronic. They want consider two kinds of trigger, a common trigger both for accelerator and detector, and a trigger for TPC. They will try to finish electronic part on next month.

And for DAQ, people want to add a short paragraph for DAQ in CDR, and we should contact with the related people in IHEP, for example, Kejun, Zhengan Liu (eader of trigger group), Fei Li...

Other issues:

Xinchou said that the accelerator group will hold a CDR mini review on November 3~4, before the CEPC conference. Joao said that the detector group will also try to invite some foreign expert to review CDR after the conference, but we should choose the proper time.
