CEPC Physics and detector regular meeting
Wednesday, September 20, 2017 from 15:00 to 18:40 (Asia/Shanghai) at IHEP ( A415 )

Attending: Joao, Tianchi Zhao, Zian Zhu, Franco Bedeschi, Gang Li, Liang Li, Mila Pandurovic, Nun Ouyang, Paolo, Roberto, Yaquan Fang, Zhaoru Zhang

1. Introduction by Joao

Joao firstly report the status of CDR, draft text from each subgroup due on September 30 and shared with others via GIT repository.
Secondly, for November meeting, Physics and Detector Sessions is almost finalized with 6 parallel sessions:
-Session 1: Silicon Vertex and Tracker
-Session 2: Gaseous detectors (drift chamber, TPC and muons)
-Session 3: Calorimeters (PFA and DR)
-Session 4: Detector concepts and system aspects (including magnet)
-Session 5: Physics and Simulation
-Session 6: Physics and Simulation (common with theory)
At least one or two talks from detector groups will be needed, others will come from foreign participants if possible. He said we will also have a Poster Session, he suggests each group can provide at least 1~2 poster, the more the better. At last, he showed the preliminary time table for the total program.

2. Comments on Dual Readout Calorimeter    by Tianchi

Tianchi gives a talk about the main issues of DR calo to be discussed in CDR. He firstly discussed the geometry of projective tower with related readout scheme, and the new design of RD52 copper module. Then he discussed the choice of PMT. We can choose a current available SiPM scheme for CDR, also we can try the MCP-PMT. For the later one, the feasibility for working in 2T and in all directions is not clear.

For CDR preparation, Joao said that the draft need to be converged in the end of this month.

3. Roundtable reports from all Physics and Detector groups

Silicon Vertex and Tracker:

Ouyang orally report the new chapter list for vertex detector part in CDR.
1. The basline design. Ouyang said they are wondering whether they should consider the special requirement for Z-pole. They add the full simulation study without beam pipe parameter resolution part, and also add the background study, which evaluate the performance of each vertex layer and test the occupancy of pixel detector.
2. Performance study and background study,  Zhigang is working on full simulation.
3. The R&D. Yunpeng is focusing on the contents related to the roadmap for sensor, and summarize  the current R&D status and further R&D direction in CDR.
4. Whether add cost estimation into CDR?  Joao said they should discuss in Steering committee meeting.
5. Optimization study with full simulation.  Zhigang is working on it with CEPC -v1, and compare with fast simulation.

Magnet:
Zian shows the new outline for magnet part. Main discussion is focused on the choice between Iron Yoke Design and Dual Solenoid Scenario. The second one is suggested by Yifang and this technology has been widely used in other experiments. Now the possible solution is preparing several design and discuss with muon detector people, contacting with muon detector convenor, because the magnet design has large impact on muon detector design.

Physics and simulation:
Document for physics performance study has been finished about 50%, and the first draft can be converged in the end of this month, however, the silicon tracking part need more work.
For physics part, it should be finished as earlier as possible.
