Fly to Hangzhou
The most convenient way for international participants is to take a flight to Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH). There are one-stop flights from many cities in Europe and in North America. There are also non-stop flights from Amsterdam, Los Angeles, and many cities in Asia.
From Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport, you can take a taxi to the hotel. Typically it costs 150 CNY (~ 20 USD) and about 1 hour. Since the taxi drivers usually do not speak English, we have prepared some instructions below which you can print out and show to the driver when necessary.
Instead of waiting in the line for a taxi, you may also use the mobile app DiDi (similar to Uber). You can install the app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store (there are two versions of the DiDi app and you need to install the "Greater China" version).

Fly to Shanghai
For participants familiar with the local traffic system, you can also choose Shanghai as your first destination in China. International flights usually arrive at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG). From Pudong Airport there are two options to go to Hangzhou.
Option 1: by long distance coaches
You can take a long distance coach directly from Pudong Airport to Hangzhou, which takes 120 CNY and about 3 hours. Note that you can only buy the ticket with cash. The departure time is daily at 8:40, 9:50, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 16:40, 17:20, 18:00, 19:00, 20:00, 21:00. Please come back and check the updated schedule before your travel.
Upon your arrival at the Pudong Airport, please follow the direction to the Coach Station or the Long Distance Bus Station (长途汽车). They are the same thing. Warning: DO NOT go to the Airport Bus (机场巴士) direction.

You can buy the ticket to Hangzhou at the end of the corridor. The price for a one-way trip to Hangzhou is about 120 CNY (at the time of writing). The coach takes about 3 hours to Hangzhou. It will first stop at Hangzhou East Railway Station (杭州东火车站), and then at Wulinmen (武林门). You can get off the bus at Wulinmen, and then take a taxi to your final destination.
Option 2: by high-speed trains
You can take the metro line 2 (8 CNY) or the airport bus line 1 (30 CNY) to Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, both taking about 1.5 hours. Please reserve at least 3.5 hours for your transfer between your landing at Pudong airport and your departure from Hongqiao railway station. From Hongqiao railway station, you can take a high-speed train to Hangzhou East Railway Station, which takes about 1 hour and costs 73 CNY. You can book the train ticket online using your passport number at Trip.com. You will need to collect your ticket with your booking information and your passport at the ticket office in Hongqiao railway station.
Once arriving at Hangzhou East railway station, you can take a taxi to your hotel, which takes about 30 minutes and 40 CNY.
