Title:
From QCD dynamics to anomalous currents: new avenues in collider physics with archival LEP data

Abstract:
Twenty-five years after LEP shut down, its archival data remains a remarkably rich testing ground for modern ideas in particle and nuclear physics. In this talk, I present measurements of the energy–energy correlator (EEC) and the one-point charge correlator. The EEC measurement, performed with charged particles, provides a sharp lens into the dynamics of QCD. Covering the full spectrum of the correlator over three orders of magnitude in scale, it reveals interesting emergent phenomena, including light-ray quasi-particle states, flux-tube excitations, and their transitions into confined hadrons. The charge correlator, measured for the first time, probes an entirely different sector of the Standard Model. A macroscopic imprint of the electroweak anomaly, protected against QCD corrections, it opens a novel path to precision electroweak physics, motivating a renewed study of the long-standing tension in the forward–backward asymmetry at the Z pole. I also highlight the growing community effort in “collider data archaeology” and the opportunity it offers for the future of collider physics.

Brief introduction about the speaker:
Jingyu Zhang (张竞予) is an experimental particle and nuclear physicist. He received his bachelor's degree from Beihang University and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois Chicago. Following his Ph.D., he was a postdoctoral researcher at Florida State University and a Distinguished Researcher at the LHC Physics Center at Fermilab. His earlier work centered on CMS data analysis, with particular expertise in QCD, jets, and statistical methods, and he also made major contribution to CMS detector operations and upgrades. He is currently a senior postdoctoral researcher at Vanderbilt University, focusing on the analysis of archived LEP data and on developing statistical tools for global analyses of collider data.
