City Excursions

We have prepared 3 excursions for those that are interested.

NOTE:

  • For these trips, shuttles will depart from and arrive back at the University Station. Shuttles will depart at 9AM and will not wait for latecomers.
  • Participants will need to manage their own lunch, activities and transportation after being dropped off. We recommend having a budget of ~300 HKD for food and drinks.
  • If participants miss the shuttle, they will need to arrange their own transportations. (But no worries! Hong Kong is easy to travel with something like google maps!)
  • We may decide to remove an excursion if there aren't sufficient participants
  • In case of poor weather conditions, we will only offer the excursion to TST

If you'd like to join one of the excursions below, please let us know which excursion by filling out this form here.

The deadline for signing up is 130pm Saturday 22/3.

Excursion 1: Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) [Cancelled]

TST is one of the best places to see the Hong Kong Island skyline and leads to the Avenue of Stars by Victoria Harbour. A minibus away from TST is the West Kowloon Cultural District, home to the M+ and Palace Museum. Central is across the Harbour, reachable by taking the Star Ferry and contains many historical Hong Kong sights, such as Tai Kwun, the Central Escalators, and the Victoria Peak tram that goes up to the Peak.

Dining options : Yat Lok (Roast goose), Sheung Hei (Claypot Rice), Lan Fong Yuen (HK milk tea), Mammy Pancakes (Egg waffles)

Recommended Sights:

  1. Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) Avenue of Stars [Shuttle dropoff point]

[Detour] Bus to West Kowloon Cultural District
  2. Star ferry from TST to Central

    1. Central Escalators and Tai Kwun (Tai Kwun link)

    2. Victoria Peak Tram (Tram link)

Excursion 2: Lantau (Tung Chung):  [Cancelled]

Lantau Island is home to the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery, both which are reached by taking the Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car. The bus will stop at Tung Chung, where the cable car station is. Aside from Ngong Ping, there are various buses at Tung Chung to see other destinations at Lantau, such as Tai O, a historic fishing village known for its stilted houses and canals. We recommend booking the Ngong Ping cable car beforehand (link).

Dining Options : Ngong Ping Village, Po Lin Monastery

Recommended Sights:

  1. Tung Chung Station [Shuttle dropoff point]

  2. Tung Chung Station [Shuttle pickup point, 3PM]

Map of recommended locations.

Due to the distance between Tai O and Ngong Ping, it is not possible to sightsee both locations before 3PM. Therefore, if you would like to see both locations, we recommend taking a bus directly between Tai O and Ngong Ping Village, then making your way back to Shatin via MTR on your own time.

Excursion 3: Dragon’s Back Hike: [OPEN]

Dragon’s Back is a popular hike for its scenic views of the South side of Hong Kong Island. This hike will start in To Tei Wan and end at Big Wave Bay, lasting around three hours. Please note that while Dragon’s Back is not a difficult trail, there are uneven stairs and we expect participants to judge their own fitness levels and physical abilities. The hike should end around noon and then there will be a bus to Shek O for lunch.

Route:

  1. To Tei Wan, trail starting point [Shuttle dropoff point]

  2. Big Wave Bay, trail ending point

  3. Shuttle to Shek O

  4. Shek O [Shuttle pickup point, 3PM]
