Beihang University is proud to host the 2025 International Summer School, which will take place at Beihang University Shahe Campus between August 11 and 15, 2025. The theme of this 5-day course is Radiobiology for Medical Physicists, the first part of a series of courses designed for medical physicists. This summer school is the fourth in its series. The first (General Clinical Issues) was held virtually in 2021. The second (Particle Therapy) and the third (Treatment Planning System) were held in a hybrid format in 2023 and 2024, respectively. More information about the past events can be found in the following links: 2021, 2023, 2024

Radiobiology, a subject studying how radiation interacts with biological systems, is a cornerstone of safe and effective radiotherapy. Understanding radiobiological principles is essential for medical physicists to optimize treatment delivery and predict clinical outcomes. It explains the biological effects of radiation dose on both tumor cells and the surrounding organs at risk (OARs). The key lies in leveraging radiobiological knowledge to generate treatment plans that maximize tumor cell kill, thereby improving tumor control probability and patient survival, while simultaneously minimizing damage to normal tissues to reduce complications and enhance quality of life.

This course will be beneficial to students, both undergraduate and graduate, who are interested in medical physics or plan to pursue a career in this field. It will also be beneficial to individuals working in clinics or industry as medical physicists to deepen their understanding of radiobiological effects and to learn how to design better plans in specific cases. This course will be held in a Hybrid format (online and in-person). In-person participants will be provided with the field trip activity.  We look forward to seeing you at the 2025 BUAA International Medical Physics Summer School!
