CEPC Physics and detector regular meeting
Friday, July 13, 2018 from 14:00 to 16:10
at IHEP ( B410 )
Attending: Joao, Manqi Ruan, Zhijun Liang, Hongbo Zhu, Gang Li, Yunpeng Lu, Huirong Qi, Yaquan Fang, Qun Ouyang, Feipeng Ning, Chengdong Fu, Xin Shi, Wei Zhao, Yuanniing Gao (Vidyo), Jianbei Liu (Vidyo), Franco (Vidyo)

1. Joao: Introductory remarks

1) CDR schedule is settled:
The scheduled agreed at Steering Group meeting was discussed.
- July 15: full text available for editing (including physics and performance)
- July 30: final internal editing finished
- Aug 30: finish internal review
- Sept 1: international review <<< changed from earlier
- Sept 30: release to public <<< changed from earlier
People agree with this schedule.

2) Editors:
Joao presented the full list of current editors. There are over 30 people included.
For general editor, Charlie Young has already given some comments for detector part, he will finish this part before July 23th and then focus on chapter 3 and physics chapter.
Chris Tully said he can start working on it in 10 days. He can contribute to all sections but focus most on physics/calorimeter chapters.
They have been invited to IHEP but they prefer to work remotely if possible. Still, it would be good to have them here sometime in August, but Chris does not have a valid visa currently.
People agreed it would still be good to have to have them at IHEP, but we need to arrange for Chris' visa.
Joao hopes Yuanning can give some help. Yuanning suggested firstly to unify the format of contents in short time, then discuss the next step.

3) Open Issues and Questions
Joao listed several open questions and suggested that if anyone find problems and mistakes in current version, to please bring it up and send email immediately.
For Lumical positioning, since the accelerator has already concluded their CDR, we will need to follow it. We should however add a sentence to indicate we are aware of the problem of positioning the Lumical after the bellows.

4) Organizational matters
The email list, cepc-cdr-dp-editors@ihep, with all CDR editors has been created. All official communications regarding the CDR should go through this list since the list includes our foreigner colleagues as well. We can use WeChat for informal discussions but we should minimize its use so to not alienate colleagues that do not have WeChat account.
We will have almost daily meetings for next couple of weeks. We need to take into account the different timezones.
For next week, the meetings will be on:
Tuesday 2 pm — report comments from Joao and Charlie
Wed 3 pm — regular meeting time. Full attendance is expected.
Thur 9:30 pm —  the time will be checked with others. We should make sure Liantao, and other US participants will attend.

5) DAQ chapter
New chapter with readout and DAQ information will be produced in the next few weeks. Zhu Kejun and Liu Zhen-an have agreed to edit it.
Since the time is urgent, and not much work has been done in this area, this chapter will be very simple.
The CLIC example is a good guideline but we might need to do something even simpler.
The text prepared for the pre-CDR but not used, might not be adequate.
Sub-detector conveners are supposed to compile and send asap information about their readout to Kejun Zhu and Zhenan Liu.
Things to be sent are: number of channels, occupancy, data volume, cell size,....
I full list should be produced upon interaction with Kejun and Zhenan. Yuanning suggested they produce an outline for what to be done.

6) General Editorial Issues
Joao mentioned several suggestion from reviewers
- Quoting of ILD should be done in a general statement early on, afterwards only when strictly necessary. There was some discussion and people agreed to this.
- Comparisons with PreCDR or previous versions is not necessary
- Numbers need to be consistent across all sections of CDR, which need people to talk with each other
- Each detector group should carefully examine the corresponding performance section for any issues
- Plots with poor quality or resolution should be updated now. Don't expect for others to ask you to do so.
People agree to update the text based on the comments.

2. MDI status from Hongbo
Hongbo updated the status of MDI in these aspects:
1) interaction region: Small update for the layout
2) Final Focusing: follow up necessary updates
3) background estimation:
- Synchrotron Radiation: studies for CDR considered are completed, now they are updating the mask design description
- Pair Production: the related GuineaPig simulation needs a few days. They are updating the text as much as possible (this weekend) but will have to wait for the updated simulation results.
They will produce the simulation results according to the following order: Higgs, Z(3T), Z(2T) and finally WW. The Higgs can be finished next week.
Joao says most important is to provide the numbers for the baseline CDR.
4) Lumical Integration: there is no easy solution for the moment but they will discuss this in the CDR
For the summary, Hongbo will put the text in this week, but pair production part need to wait for the outcome of the new simulation.

3. TPC updates from Huirong
Huirong showed the status from TPC chapter.
1) Huirong presented the list of names  of everyone involved in the TPC work.  All sub-chapters has been done and uploaded.
2) Huirong presented some IBF studies and a declaration from LCTPC, Sacaly TPC, MOST international review meeting supporting the studies.
3) X-ray tube tests as suggested by Werner Riegler in Rome were presented. The GEM discharges when x-ray intensity is too high, so they could not extend study to higher values.
4) Joao raised the point that the tests requests were to go down in x-ray intensity, not higher. They didn't go to lower x-ray intensities because it is already too low.
Joao asked for a short note to be produced and sent to Werner Riegler for review. Huirong agree with it and he will also add these results in CDR on Monday.

4. Physics and simulation updates from Manqi
Manqi said that the chapter 3 and 10 are updated.
1) For chapter 3, they mainly updated the experimental condition for Higgs and Z/W operation, physics condition for the object identification and the baseline detector concept.
Joao mentioned that the plot in this chapter should be unified, as Yaquan had proposed earlier. Everyone agreed to work on a common plot style.
The full silicon concept is still missing, Joao said that he will work together with Weiming Yao, to write a general statement for this part, and more details will be shown in later chapter.
The IDEA concept text will be expanded and harmonized with the new developments. Franco will modify that part by Monday.

2) For the physics performance in Chapter 10, the Higgs part needs to be put as the first session. Yaquan said that most of the contents are ready, only a few tables and plots missing will be added in the next few days.  Haibo can help with adding a flavor part here or in the theory section.
For W/Z, Zhijun said that he has modified the contents and added more details. Zhijun agreed that the WW threshold scan will be put in CDR by Monday, July 16.
Also Maarten Boonekamp is writing the W mass part and he will help edit the electroweak section.

5. Drift Chamber from Franco:
Franco said that he will update a new version by end of next week. In particular, he has new higher-quality plots he would like to add.

We reiterated the agreement to mostly referencing ILD in Chapter 3, when discussing the baseline detector, but not throughout the text. This applies mostly to the vertex section and TPC. Ouyang, present at the time, agreed to it.

No more reports were presented and we adjourn.
