Collective flow in large and small systems

Speaker: You Zhou (Niels Bohr Institute)

Time: Oct. 26(Tuesday)  6:00am (San Fransisco), 9:00am (New York), 3:00pm (Frankfurt), 6:30pm(New Delhi), 9:00pm (Beijing), 10:00pm (Tokyo)

Abstract:  Anisotropic flow, which quanties the anisotropy of the momentum distribution of  final state particles, is used to study the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) emergent in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. It is sensitive to the event-by-event fluctuating initial geometry of the overlap region, and it contributes significantly to the characterization of the QGP. This seminar will present the most recent flow measurements at the LHC, including event-by-event flow fluctuations, flow angle, and magnitude fluctuations and their correlations. Together with the comparisons to theoretical model calculations, I will discuss the state-of-the-art understanding of the initial conditions and their impact on the extraction of QGP properties. In addition, the study of flow in small collision systems, with emphasis on a few selected topics, will be discussed.
