Description
Commissioning and operation of large-scale superconducting RF (SRF) cavity systems involve repetitive and time-consuming procedures, creating a strong demand for automated operational tools. This work presents a suite of applications based on EPICS and Phoebus for automated cavity conditioning, cavity loading, and RF measurement. The applications integrate EPICS control with Phoebus operator interfaces to execute predefined operational procedures, monitor device status in real time, coordinate safety interlocks, and automatically respond to abnormal conditions during cavity commissioning.
The automation framework is currently being deployed across three accelerator projects at the Institute of Modern Physics: the High Intensity Heavy-ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF), the China Initiative Accelerator Driven System (CIADS), and the IP-SAFE facility. By replacing repetitive manual operations with standardized automated workflows, the framework improves operational efficiency, enhances commissioning consistency, and reduces operator workload. Its modular and reusable design also provides a foundation for extending automation to additional commissioning and operational tasks in future SRF facilities.
