Description
The J-PARC Muon Linac is an ongoing project at the Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF). The accelerator consists of several sections, including the USM, RFQ, IH-DTL, DAW, and DLS, which progressively accelerate muons from 5.6 keV to 212 MeV for the muon g-2/EDM experiment. Construction and commissioning of the linac are being carried out step by step, starting from the upstream sections. In 2026, commissioning has progressed to the RFQ section at 0.34 MeV.
The control system therefore needs to operate partially completed accelerator sections while allowing new sections to be added with minimal modification. The system is based on EPICS and uses PLC I/O modules and MOXA Ethernet-to-serial interfaces for device monitoring and control. PLCs are also used for equipment interlocks. The system was used during muon beam commissioning of the USM and RFQ sections in June 2026 and is now being prepared for the next beam commissioning scheduled for November 2026.
This presentation will give an overview of the control-system architecture and implementation, summarize recent commissioning experience, and discuss ongoing work and plans for future extension.
