Description
The High Energy Photon Source (HEPS), China's first fourth-generation synchrotron radiation facility, is designed to provide extremely high brightness and coherence for cutting-edge scientific research. Its Phase I project encompasses 15 beamlines, requiring precise motion control for approximately 1800 axes of optical components and endstation devices. To address the stringent demands of sub-micron positioning accuracy, multi-axis synchronous motion, and real-time data acquisition under constrained budget, we designed and implemented the HEPS Beamline Motion Control System (MCS2). The system adopts a distributed hierarchical architecture: at the hardware layer, it is based on EtherCAT fieldbus, employing ACS programmable controllers, self-developed driver cards, and integrated boards; at the software layer, it is built on EPICS with a multi-IOC architecture (Motor IOC and Script & Data Acquisition IOC), providing basic motion control, real-time script execution (trajectory planning, multi-axis coordination, triggering), and multi-channel data acquisition up to 20 kHz. This report presents the design approach, hardware implementation, and software functionality of MCS2, along with its application in general-purpose stepper axis motion control for HEPS beamlines.
