Description
With our refactoring of the IOCs for Xspress3 as an example, the idea of systematic simplification of IOC development and deployment is introduced. With the ihep-pkg packaging system (including mingw-build) and the ~/iocBoot convention (plus ~/epics), the use of EPICS can be highly simplified on the db/cmd and upper levels. ADGenICam is extended to support the much wider range of devices with GenICam-like interfaces, greatly simplifying the C++ code of their IOCs. QueueIOC, our Python IOC framework that attempts to further simplify development, is presented with sequencers and monochromator IOCs as the main examples. Our Python IOCs for detectors are based on friendly, reusable simplified "SDKs", which may also be used in areaDetector-based IOCs. Also briefly discussed is our perspective on the use of techniques like AI and virtualisation/containerisation in the EPICS ecosystem.
