Description
This lightning talk introduces the migration project of the utility facility control system at the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS). CSNS auxiliary infrastructure including water cooling, compressed air, HVAC and power distribution originally adopted commercial SCADA software for control. Although commercial SCADA supports fast HMI development and mature industrial functions, it brings vendor lock-in, expensive licenses and closed interfaces. The growing number of subsystems makes unified management challenging.
To achieve a unified utility control system, CSNS initiated a phased migration from commercial SCADA to an EPICS distributed control system. We will present the existing commercial SCADA application status and phased replacement strategy, including PLC-EPICS IOC integration, data archiving, and Phoebus-based HMI reconstruction.
The migration proceeds with no interruption to equipment operation. Dual-system coexistence is maintained while O&M staff make the skill transition from commercial SCADA tools to the EPICS workflow.
