Minutes for CEPC Physics and detector regular meeting
Monday, April 17, 2017 from 15:00 to 18:00 (Asia/Shanghai) at B410
The topic of the meeting is the plan for CDR, especially for the time scale.
1. Introduction by Joao
First he introduce some details about Wuhan’s meeting. Secondly, he give a general plan for CDR, mainly on timeline, organization, challenge and possible outline.
For the CDR organization, he bring out two possibility, one detector concept or two detector concept. Based on this issue, people think it is possible to state TPC-based detector concept into CDR, because we have done much work on 3.5T and 3T TPC design, with full simulation. And for the second concept, using lower magnet (2 or 2.5 T), we can put some preliminary results into CDR, in order to show a comparison between these two detector design. But time limited is still a urgent difficulty.
2. MDI status report from Hongbo
After the talk, people discussed about the time scale for the MDI chapter in CDR.
Hong said all the work they are doing need to be put into CDR, but the time is related to the time scale of accelerator CDR, because the MDI design is related to accelerator design.
Also for the benchmark, the Higgs part is going well, but the Z-ploe part need more time, because many related effects need to be considered, such as beam structure, temperature, etc.
So currently, it’s hard to give an accurate time scale for CDR.
3. Vertex status report by Qun
For the time scale of vertex part in CDR, people think we can just bring out the goal of vertex research, showing some milestone of the work, and give the best simulation of the performance. More technical details can be shown in TDR.
4. Huirong reports the plan for CDR on tracker
He mentions a detailed plan for CDR in Slide2. For the Simulation and Estimation, also Baseline design and Mechanics, much work have been done and can be written well in CDR, but for TPC detector module R&D and Alignment and calibration, maybe only some preliminary can be shown in end of this year.
5. Status report on Calorimeter by Haijun
plan for Calo CDR is well prepared in Slide5. Both ECAL and HCAL have several design options, so one question is how to arrange the structure of Calo chapter in CDR, in oder to make the outline of this chapter reasonable and also cover all these different technical design effectively. More discussion are needed.
6. Muon status report by Liang
For the time scale of Muon part, it is limited by Calorimeter progress. Only when the stable calo design come out, the muon chamber related simulation can begin. Also now Muon group is really lack of manpower. So it is hard to ensure muon section in CDR can be finished in the end of this year.
7. Magnet status report by Zian
People plan to put “NbTi+COPPER+Al” results into CDR, but first need MDI to decide the value of magnet (3T or 2.5T ?)
8. Simulation status report by Manqi
For the timeline of CDR, the most difficult part is Electroweak benchmark study. The Z-ploe analysis now is lack of manpower, also the request of Z-ploe is hard to understand, which should be the baseline of this work. So this part would take long time to be finished.
So for the solution, we can first communicate with FCC since they has done some Z-pole work, and try to find more technical people invoved in Z-pole analysis. Also it's fine to finish the CDR without Z-pole work, or only show some preliminary results in there.
