UPC physics 2023

Description

Strong electromagnetic fields of short duration are produced in ultraperipheral collisions (UPCs) of high-energy nuclei. UPC physics provides a unique opportunity to explore the properties of matter at the smallest scales and under extreme conditions and to advance our understanding of the fundamental laws of nature. Many important physics topics can be investigated in UPC processes, including beyond standard model physics, hadron physics, spin physics, heavy-ion physics, and strong-field physics. 

The UPCP 2023 will be held from 26 May to 28 May at Fudan University and will feature a range of presentations and discussion sessions covering a broad range of topics in UPC physics. The workshop will provide an excellent opportunity for researchers, students, and experts to exchange ideas, share insights, and develop collaborations that can help to advance the field.

Key topics to be covered at the workshop include:

  • Theoretical and experimental studies of UPCs
  • Probing the structure of the nucleus
  • Testing fundamental theories
  • Studying the properties of exotic particles
  • Advancing technology for UPC experiments

The workshop will also include sessions on the ongoing and future physics programs at major research facilities, such as the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Lab and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. In addition, there will be discussions about the planning for the next generation of high-energy physics facilities, such as the US Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) and the Electron-Ion Collider in China (EicC).
