9th Workshop on Hadron physics in China and Opportunities Worldwide

Asia/Shanghai
Nanjing University, Nanjing, China

Nanjing University, Nanjing, China

Fan WANG (Nanjing University) , Hongshi Zong (Nanjing University) , Shenjian CHEN (Nanjing University) , Zuowei Liu (Nanjing University)
Description

Hadron Physics has drawn great interests from the Chinese nuclear and high-energy physics communities and has been one of the main research fields at institutes and universities in China. At the same time, the Chinese collaborations are playing increasingly important roles at international hadron physics facilities (Jefferson Lab, RHIC, COMPASS@CERN, J-PARC, …), in particular, at the recently upgraded 12 GeV-energy Jefferson Lab in US, which will provide a broad range of opportunities for frontier research in hadronic physics. Furthermore, the U.S. 2015 long range plan for nuclear science recommended Electron-Ion Colliders (EIC), as the highest priority for new facility construction after the completion of the FRIB as the next frontier for QCD physics. In China, an EIC@HIAF has been widely discussed to be a future facility for hadron physics study. In light of these new developments, the 9th workshop will be held at Nanjing University, located in Nanjing of China during July 24-28, 2017. In addition to the OCPA in Beijing, this meeting is also immediately after the next EIC Users Group Meeting to be held in Trieste, Italy, July 18-22, 2017, which is the first EIC UGM outside of the US, following those at Stony Brook, Berkeley and Argonne.

The major topics to be discussed at the workshop are the current status of hadron physics, opportunities at upcoming new facilities, and also frontiers of new physics at future facilities. Also ways to further enhance and promote collaborations between the Chinese and the international hadron physics communities will be discussed at this workshop.

This workshop follows its series previously held in Wuhan(2016), Kunshan (2015), Lanzhou (2014), Huangshan (2013), Beijing (2012), Weihai (2011), Beijing (2010), and Lanzhou (2009).

Nanjing had been the capital of China for many dynasties since AD 222, the end of Han dynasty. There are a lot of historical and scenary places around the CITY. They are the Purple mountain near the town center; the mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yet-Sen (the founder of the first republic that ended the more than two thousand years of feudalism in China) located in the south front hillside; the beautiful lake Xuanwu close to the town center; the remnants of the empire palace of the southern dynasties (AD 420-589) and the Ming dynasty (1368-1644); the historical cultural center Konfucius temple and the Qinhuai river; the Yuejianglou located on the mountain close to Yangtze River and constructed in the 1370s; the museum of the renowned Red-Mansions-Dream and the southern dynasties; the president office of the republic of China, etc.

This workshop will be co-hosted by Nanjing University (NJU), Purple Mountain Observatory (PMO) of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), China Center of Advanced Science and Technology (CCAST), Nanjing Normal University (NJNU) and South-East University (SEU), and co-chaired by Jianping Chen (JLab), Shenjian Chen (NJU), Haiyan Gao (Duke University and Duke Kunshan University), and Hongshi Zong (NJU).
