Description
The IWSMT series is the premier forum in which to exchange the latest information from materials related studies, to discuss open questions encountered in operation and development of high power spallation targets, and to establish new international collaborations on relevant materials research topics. The tenth international workshop on spallation materials technology will be especially timely, because of important events taking place around the world. The beam power of the SNS is approaching 1 MW and the first mercury target has operated successfully to the high radiation dose of ~10 dpa; the SINQ and ISIS targets have experienced significantly improved performance; the ground breaking of the CSNS will take place this year; decisions have been made to site the ESS in Sweden; the post-irradiation examination of the MEGAPIE target and the first SNS target will be conducted in 2009 and 2010. There is a rich and rapidly increasing materials database that has been established by spallation sources and ADS relevant R&D programs. This tenth meeting marks a significant milestone in this young and exciting field. It will, along the baseline of the previous meetings of this series, provide an important forum for demonstrating the progress of spallation sources of different nations.
